Charles Alfred Bowen (? – 1981) arrived at Campbell in 1922 as a graduate of Oxford University in Mathematics and Physics. He had served as a Sapper in The Royal Engineers in The First World War, and became CO of the school OTC 1927-33, and served as a Major in Africa with The Royal Ulster Rifles during The Second World War. He was appointed Senior Science Master in 1927, and he also taught Geography. He was a junior and senior Housemaster, Housemaster of Yate’s 1925-28 and 1946-59, Housemaster of Ormiston 1928-40 and served as Bursar from 1949, as well as becoming Vice-master for thirteen years until his retirement in 1959. He retired originally to Banstead in Surrey, and then to Oxford where he died in May 1981, bequeathing £1,000.00 for library books! His eponymous House was created in 1982.
