Julie Brown (7062) took over as President of The Old Campbellian Society at the AGM on Monday 5th February.
Julie is one of only 38 Lady Ocs who attended the college in the late seventies, early eighties. She is the daughter of Fred Parkes (Hon OC) who taught at the college for 32 years, was Housemaster of Davis's and the driving force behind the success of the swimming team for decades. Julie qualified for the Commonwealth Games at the age of 12 and competed in them at aged 13. She is still the youngest athlete to compete at the Commonwealth Games for Northern Ireland (they had to employ a chaperone). She subsequently qualified for the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984, the first female Irish swimmer to qualify for the Olympics. She subsequently taught PE for over twenty years. She is the mother of two sons and a daughter. Both her sons are Old Campbellians.
In other business, Andrew Gildea (7417) was duly elected as Vice President and Michael Cooper (7520) as Deputy Vice President. Robbie Sholdis (9216) continues as Hon. Secretary and Dermot Parker (7467) as Chairman. There were no nominations received by Council prior to the AGM for Hon. Treasurer. However, following the AGM Council agreed to co-opt (and were grateful to him for volunteering) Shane Beckett (6709) as an interim treasurer for the coming year.
Dr Jenny Breen, Mr Mark McKee and Ms Wendy Shannon were admitted as Honorary OCs following their committed service to the college.
