Over the past year, Matthew Wilson (12395) has been assisting P5, P6 and P7 classes in our Junior School on a range of film projects. Working with Matthew, pupils have had the opportunity to use cameras, a variety of editing software, and learned different filming techniques that are applied in the industry.

The P5 class project was to create a murder mystery themed short film. They used the Junior School mascot to tell the story of a dramatic kidnapping and the panicked hunt to find the missing mascot! The P5 project was filmed over 6 hours and then edited to create a final piece which was then screened to Junior School at their assembly.

The P6 project centred around reflecting on the past and how times have changed with a particular focus on reflections about Covid. Interviews were conducted with residents at Hawthorn House Care Home. The resulting film came together really well with the boys’ reflections and the Care Home residents’ memories making for an emotional and moving final piece when it was screened.

The P7 class project was to create a film that could be screened at their leavers’ day which would allow the P7s to share their favourite memories of Campbell College Junior School. Every P7 boy got the opportunity to share their thoughts and then, as a class, spent a day editing their own project together. They are all looking forward to seeing the finished piece at their leavers’ event at the end of June.

We are very grateful for Matthew’s continued support at the school. As well as assisting the Junior School, Matthew also provides support to the Campbell College Pipes and Drums assisting leader Graham Harris (10321). I am sure we will be hearing more from Matthew in the years to come!
