It is with deep regret that the Society announces the passing of Dr Alan John Wilson formerly of Price's House, on 9 April 2026.

Alan attended CCB between September 1953 and July 1958 representing the school as a member of the 1st XV as well as the Cross Country Club. His brother Derek Wilson also attended CCB (OC 4432).

His friend and fellow OC Chris Corry-Thomas OC 4113 shared the following:

I first met Alan at Cabin Hill Preparatory School, Belfast in 1952. Both of us having come from East Africa we became life long friends. He got his BVMS veterinary science PhD at Edinburgh University. He met his wife at university and was married in Nairobi, Kenya. He ended up in Toronto, Uganda researching the control of tsetse fly in the country. He had a single engine Cessna aeroplane to enable him to reach remote areas for his work. He had to leave Uganda in a hurry due to political unrest in 1972, so he flew his plane out very early one morning before the authorities came to claim his plane. He was offered a veterinarian job in Townsville, Australia. His plane was his one asset so after 3 years of planning he flew his young family over to Australia. He flew from Nairobi via Ethiopia, Middle East, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia landing initially in Darwin (Australia) then on to Townsville, Queensland, Australia. The journey took 45 days, 105 flying hours and covered 12,600 miles. After retiring from veterinary practice they settled in an Eco Village in Queensland and from here joined a joint Australian/Indonesian project building and running Eco Hotels so spent much of his time together with wife Meryl living in Indonesia. Finally retired back to his home in Queensland.

A wonderful friend and I was privileged to have been his Best Man at his wedding. He is survived by his wife Meryl, son Geoffrey and daughter Johanna and several grandchildren.
