We are thrilled to announce that Bertie, Year 12, School has been nominated and selected as one of the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets for Belfast and will be taking up his appointment in April 2022. Bertie  joined Campbell College CCF in September 2019 and is a member of the RAF Section. Bertie’s cadet career (like many others) was significantly interrupted by the pandemic restrictions in March 2020, however he continued to engage with the online training programme and on return to face-to-face training, has attended every event offered.  He has volunteered on a weekly basis to lead the instruction of younger cadets who are in our Pioneer Company, as well as taking a leading role in his own Section training. Bertie has developed a keen interest in shooting as part of the CCF, attending after-school practice as well as weekend events to improve his knowledge and individual ability. Bertie also studies GCSE music, plays the saxophone and has more recently, joined the CCF Pipes and Drums where he is learning to be a drummer.

The CCF is so proud of Bertie’s achievements:

‘Bertie is an extremely enthusiastic, charismatic individual and his positive attitude influences those around him. While still a relatively new member of the Contingent, he has continued to display a level of maturity which one would expect from someone more experienced and advanced in service. He is dependable, leads by example and is held in high regard by his peers and CFAVs alike.  Bertie is fully deserving of the appointment as the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet in the County Borough of Belfast City’.

Congratulations Bertie, we wish you every success in your new role!
