A ceremony was held in the French port of St Nazaire on 28 March with veterans gathering to remember, 70 years on, one of the most daring raids of World War II. The St Nazaire Raid was a successful British amphibious attack on the heavily defended Normandie dry dock at St Nazaire in German-occupied France during the Second World War. Taking part in the operation was 20 year old Commando, OC Corran Purdon (2639). Although the raid was successful, Corran and over 200 of his comrades, were captured by the Germans. He escaped from his POW camp but was recaptured and spent the rest of the war in Colditz.
