The Firsts booked their Semi-Final spot in the Sussex Regiment Cup, with a tortuous win against a Parkview team which (on this season's league standings) should have really struggled against the current League leaders.
Campbellians were without Adam Campbell, Chris Maskery, David Deane, and influential Captain John Rea. They also played the last 20 minutes with 10 men, after Scott Orr took the full force of an air shot on the thigh and had to leave the field.
However, a recent lack of match practice, and poor composure in the circle, allowed Parkview into the game; and the men in green were probably lucky to finally come away with the win.
The two Campbellians' goals came courtesy of Joel Easlea. His first was the result of a magnificent individual recovery during a Penalty Corner routine. He well and truly messed up his first attempt but then expertly dug the ball out, and finished with great skill. His second was also from a Penalty Corner (a now trademark drag flick high into the top corner of the net).
True, Campbellians were without four of the regular squad; and true, they were down to ten men for much of the final period. However, this sort of performance would simply not even begin to be good enough to justify a place in the Final.
If this fixture had anything in its favour, it will hopefully have dusted off the cobwebs in advance of the four remaining key Senior 2 fixtures of the season.
Campbellians are away to the PSNI in the Semi-Final of the Sussex Regiment Cup, to be played on Tuesday 20th April.
