The PSNI finished just one point ahead of Campbellians last season; and going into Saturday's encounter at Belmont the Home team knew that 6 points from both league encounters this year would be essential to remain on the promotion trail.

Campbellians had much of the ball during the first period; and a superb aerial by Joel Easlea from inside his own half, reached Adam Campbell in the opposition circle, giving him two chances to bury the ball in the opposition net (the second of which he despatched with aplomb).

Continued pressure resulted in the first penalty corner of the afternoon and a second goal for the Home side, as James Leebody sent a rocket of a drag flick past the outstretched stick of the PSNI 'keeper.

But several basic petty mistakes by virtually every member of the Home team gifted the police the opportunity to get back into the game, and they mounted several attacks during the latter part of the half.

This continued into the second period; and a penalty stroke (after a well struck penalty corner shot from the visitors hit Chris Maskery's foot on the line) left the score at 2-1.

This gave the visitors new heart; however Campbellians began to settle and once again started to create the chances. Just three minutes before the end a fantastic three-pronged attack by Joel Easlea, Andy Burnside, and finally David Deane saw the ball swept into the PSNI net, to give Campbellians a solid 3-1 win.

The 1sts have still to play their best hockey; however as long as they keep scoring the goals and ramping up the points, promotion is still very much on the radar.
