The 1sts failed to capture all 3 points at Belmont in a fixture they know they should have won easily.
Apart from half a dozen 'Hinch forays into the Home circle, possession throughout the match was largely in Campbellians' favour.
Peter Gray touched the ball three times in the entire 70 minutes; once to make a fine penalty corner save, once to make an equally fine block from open play, and once to pick the ball out of the back of the net after sloppy defending handed the visitors the opening goal after 22 minutes, via a well struck shot from the right hand edge of the Campbellians circle.
In the second half, the Home side continued to mount attack after attack; but the finishing and composure in and around the circle was absolutely woeful.
Finally, just ten minutes before the final whistle, Adam Campbell managed to release a shot from the right hand side of the 'Hinch circle, and the ball struck the backboard after taking a slight deflection off a defender's stick.
Campbellians had the vast majority of possession, countless opportunities in front of goal, and a total of 8 penalty corners, all of which were wasted. This is frankly not good enough for a side which has firmly set its sights on promotion.
However the positive from this match was the way in which the Home side kept going right to the end. In this sort of encounter last season (one goal down and ten minutes to go) Campbellians would have lost; and it is excellent to see the vast improvement in mindset which helped to claw back the point.
