    02 June 2017Campbell College recently announced the appointment of former Ulster Rugby Head Coach, Neil Doak as Performance and Development Manager for Rugby and Cricket at the College.  The announcement was made in the company of over 300 P6 and P7 Rugby players as they enjoyed the 2017 Campbell College 'All Ireland U11 Rugby Festival' which was taking place at the College's 100 acre East Belfast campus.

    06 October 2015Nobel judges in Stockholm jointly awarded the prestigious prize to Professor William C Campbell (3171). Campbell was born in Ramelton, Donegal and was the third son of R.J. Campbell, a farm supplier. He attended Campbell College and graduated from Trinity College, Dublin in 1952. He became a US citizen in 1962.

    14 September 2013Any OC wishing to renew his/her acquaintance with Campbell is warmly invited to visit the building and estate during European Heritage Open Days (EHOD).
    The school will be open 10 am and 1 pm on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September 2013. There will be a continuous tour of the building, led by College Archivist and Historian, Keith Haines, which can be joined at any stage.

    19 February 2013Charles Hutchison (6532) was awarded the Membership of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the New Year's Honours List for Services to Health and Safety in Northern Ireland.
  • Centenary Signing of Ulster Covenant
    28 September 2012Friday 28th September, is the centenary date of the signing of the Ulster Covenant by nearly half a million Ulster men and women in opposition to the British Government's Home Rule Bill. Campbell College was used as one of many Places of Signing and members of Staff and Campbell pupils signed it in the school. Fred Crawford, longest serving College Governor and famous gun-runner, was said to have signed his name in blood. This has yet to be proved.
  • Old Campbellian Sports Club - Now Enrolling
    18 September 2012The Old Campbellian Sports Club is now enrolling members for the 2012-13 school year. Offering Single, Family and Student membership, it is open to all members of the OC Society and their families. Families of current pupils may join as Associate members.
    It is open during term times and from Monday to Thursday each week. Swimming, squash and 5-a-side football are all on offer, along with tennis in the summer term.
  • Professor Bill Campbell
    16 September 2012At the end of June OC Bill Campbell (3171) was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science by Trinity College Dublin. He had graduated from Trinity in 1952 with first class honours in Zoology. While he was Director of Parasitology at Merck he was centrally involved in developing Ivermectin, the cure against river blindness.

    10 September 2012The degree of Doctor of Science (Economics) was conferred on Tony Watson (4647) by the Queen's University of Belfast in July. Retiring as Chief Executive of Hermes Pensions Management in January 2006, he currently serves as Chairman of Marks and Spencer Pension Trust Limited and the Asian Infrastructure Fund.

    30 May 2012Earlier this month the BBC screened a 3 part series about N Ireland in WW2. It was presented by military historian Dan Snow. What they unearthed led them to conclude that Northern Ireland played not a small part, but a pivotal role in the war. One man who certainly made a huge contribution was Sq/Ldr Terry Bulloch (2320), interviewed during the programme. He was the most successful British pilot in the Coastal Command throughout the war, destroying four U-boats and damaging two.

    30 March 2012The former deputy leader of the Alliance Party, Old Campbellian Addie Morrow, has died.
    He served as a councillor on Castlereagh Council and in the 1982 Northern Ireland Assembly.
    Alliance Party leader David Ford paid tribute: "His whole life was a practical demonstration of his commitment to peace and reconciliation. "He was a huge inspiration to many of us now in the leadership of the party," he said.
  • GB Debut for OC Shooter
    16 March 2012Two OCs are part of the Great Britain Rifle Team which is currently on tour in South Africa. Veteran shooter David Calvert (5180), who first represented GB in 1975, is Chief Coach.
    Simon Carson (6617) is making his first appearance for the British Team.He started shooting in his last year at Campbell and went to Bisley with the school that July and has been attending Bisley regularly since. Although his main interest is fullbore target rifle he did go away from this for several years to concentrate on match rifle and now shoots both disciplines with a little smallbore in the winter. Simon won the Irish Open in 2010 and has toured with Ireland teams to Canada and South Africa.
  • David Caves
    01 March 2012David (8240) has been getting rave reviews recently for his performances. In his role in the Jacobean play The Changeling in November, one West End actor told The Observer newspaper it was the best performance she had ever seen. He is currently appearing as Petruchio in the RSC's production of The Taming of the Shrew, again to great praise. It runs at the Newcastle Theatre Royal until 3 March and then moves to various venues ending up in London.
    David began his acting career in productions at Cabin Hill and Campbell. He had very close connections with the school as his mother, Naomi, taught at Cabin Hill Pre-Prep, his father, Michael, taught at Campbell and his uncle, Ronnie Caves, was Vice Principal at the College.
  • Interviewers for School Careers Night Needed - 29th February
    29 February 2012As part of the College's Careers provision,  Year 13 (Lower Sixth) pupils engage in an Interview Skills Programme culminating in an evening in which they apply these skills through mock interviews with experienced professionals.  The pupils have benefited significantly from this experience in the past, and the feedback, guidance and advice provided by specialists has proved invaluable.  Are you willing to help in the role of interviewer?     24 October 2011A new exhibition by Gary Devon (5942) will open on 24th October at Ross's Auction Rooms, Belfast, whose Principal is Daniel Clarke (5376). The official opening of new paintings entitled Still Standing, will be by OC and Broadcaster, Noel Thompson (5789).
    Previously Gary was commissioned to do a painting of the College which appeared on the frontispiece of the 1999 Register. The Register is still available from the OC shop for £5.00 plus p&p.

    27 August 2011A Dinner will be held in the College on Saturday 5th November, organised by the OC Society, to celebrate Bob Mitchell's life and achievements while at Campbell.
    On Sunday 6th November, there will be a Scattering of Ashes Ceremony on the old 1st XV pitch at 10.30am, followed by a Thanksgiving Service in the College at 11.00am.

    17 July 2011Following on from their performance of The Tempest underground, Butterfly's production of "Macbeth" is continuing the success. They were nominated for "Best Production" in Pooles Cavern at The Buxton Festival and Nick(Poots)Danan (7581) won in the "Best Actor" catagory. They will be performing at The Bakewell Arts Festival (Derbyshire) Tuesday 9th -Saturday 13th August, 7.30pm.

The meal will be served at 8.00 but pre-dinner drinks are available in the Central Hall from 7.00, where you can meet up with old friends and enjoy the ambience of your old school. Ticket price is £39.00.
    It is hoped that leavers of 50 years ago will form a large gathering.

    30 January 2011As those extra pounds creep on and your back and shoulders start to seize up after hours on your computer, why not take up the opportunity of some mid week swimming to relax yourself as well as getting some beneficial exercise. Join the Old Campbellian Sports Club and avail yourself of the warm waters of the College swimming pool. If you are feeling more active you can have a game of squash or help make up a team for 5-a-side football.

    29 January 2011The Annual General Meeting of The Old Campbellian Society will take place on Monday 31st January 2011 at 8.00pm in the College Sixth Form Centre. This year, at 7.30pm, prior to the meeting, a presentation will be given by some of the pupils who visited Kenya last year to work with the Jengana charity. OCs have given very generously to the charity through collections at the Annual Dinner and the Halloween Dance.

  • Cecil PedlowCecil Pedlow
    14 December 2010Cecil Pedlow (3614) was inducted into the Guinness Rugby Writers' Hall of Fame in October 2010. He first played for Ireland in March 1953 in the final match of their Five Nations campaign.
    He went on to gain 30 caps, playing both on the wing and in the centre over the next 11 seasons. In all, he scored 31 points for Ireland and also toured with the British Lions in 1955 when he was capped in two Tests, scoring a try in the first and a conversion in the second. A dentist by profession, Cecil also played squash for Ireland.

    11 November 2010The Society is asking OCs to help Campbellians in the Middle and Senior schools prepare for life after Campbell.
    To that end we are establishing a network of volunteer Old Campbellians from which to draw support for the school.  The type of help Campbell is looking for includes interview practice, work placements, mentoring and speaking to school assemblies or similar.
